FAQ
Before you apply
Fees, solos vs teams, tryouts, filming, and what happens if you don’t make it.
Is applying free — and when do I pay?
Applying is free. If you make a roster in the draft, you pay $40 to lock your spot and shirt. No fee, no spot on game day. Entry fees are non-refundable — once you’re selected and paid, that seat is locked for timing and production.
Do I need a full team to apply?
No — and you can’t bring one either. Everyone applies as an individual. Captains draft the rosters after evaluation, so teams are built in the draft — not by who you show up with. Friends can both apply, but there’s no guarantee you’ll land on the same team.
Is my division preference guaranteed?
No. Elite and Open are different competitive levels on the same court and rules — your form choice is a preference only. Final pools are set after evaluation so brackets stay fair.
Do I have to go to tryouts?
No. You can apply without attending tryouts. Showing up helps your chances in the draft because we see you live — but it isn’t required to be selected. You do need to be able to make game day in person if you make a team.
Who can play? Is there an age limit?
THE CUT is in Dayton, Ohio. Anyone who can make game day (and tryouts if you go) can apply. We prefer players 18+, but the hard requirement is showing up when it counts.
What does captain interest mean?
On the application you can mark that you’re interested in being a captain — you don’t have to. If you’re picked, you lead a team brand: name, colors, and logo — and you’re part of the draft. Shirt artwork stays within event parameters and may be coordinated with production. Checking the box doesn’t guarantee you’ll be a captain.
Will I be on YouTube?
Yes. Every game is filmed for the Noah Marrero main channel — if you’re on a team, you’ll be on camera. Applying means you’re comfortable with that.
What if I’m not selected?
We’ll email you either way. If you don’t make a roster, that email will include the option to stay on as a backup — you’d be first contacted if a spot opens before game day.
